This movie has a heart of gold and Christopher Lloyd….

gives one of his all time best performances imo.
I loved this film as a child and I may even love it more as an adult.

I have good memories of watching it as a kid as well. I remember laughing at those two kids arguing and one says "we could bury you alive" and the girl in glasses raises her fist and replies "i could pound your face".

Unconcerned by what others may think, I, a 72 year old man, have always loved this movie. The chemistry between Mr. Wilson, played by the wonderful Walter Matthau, and Dennis is the rock upon which this film rests.
Christopher Lloyd's turn as Switchblade Sam is at times very scary, and at other times, very incompetent at his trade. And that is the comedy of this movie, besides the incredible situations Dennis puts Mr Wilson in, although without malice or anger.
But, there is one sequence in this film that soars above all else.
The heart touching, tear inducing scene when Mrs. Wilson reads "Winkin' Blinkin and Nod" to Dennis and you see how he is connected to his parents through the passages in the poem. Beautiful moment.

I read your post on another thread and was a smidge away from responding to you by reposting the title to my thread, the heart of gold part anyways, and I agree with everything you said, and I’m a man with some years on me as well partner.
