In the end, when Dennis comes back home, the police officer arrest switchblade. But, what´s the prosecution?
He met switchblade earlier in the movie, and he said, he should leave the town, and switchblade goes away.
In the end, the officer finds switchblade bound and injured and bleeding, and arrests him - but why? The officer could not know what happened in that moment.

First of all , he doesn't go away , he starts robbing houses, then he kidnaps Denis.
So for one he is charged with B and E. abduction a child,
he was a dirt bag.
That´s right, BUT: the sheriff doesn´t know that in that moment. They only met once, at the playground.
shareWhen Mr. Wilson asks who that guy is, Dennis probably tells him he robbed houses in the town so he calls the police. It seemed at the end, Switchblade would rather be arrested than be around Dennis which is part of the joke.

shareUh, he got arrested because they found on him the stuff he looted. Remember Dennis returns with Sam tied up and unconscious and he tells Mr. Wilson he got his gold back? Well, we see Mr. Wilson talking to the police chief, which was probably him filing a complaint about the robbery. I'm sure other people in the neighborhood noticed their stuff missing and when Sam was searched, they saw the loot so he was under arrest. Simple as that.
shareThere was a time gap between Dennis reuniting with mr. Wilson and his parents and when the police arrive. I'm sure he told them all about it, and he had all the stuff Sam stole. When they called the police, I'm sure they mentioned the kidnapping and stolen stuff.
sharethe bad guy in this movie being arrested is SOO TYPICAL in these movies dont you agree? Whay didnt they have a sequel where he breaks out to get dennis (or was it that he was happy to be arrested so he could be away from Dennis). MAy be Sam was taken away cause they had probably gotten calls of being robbed and suspected it was him. Do you think the Sheriff was surprised it was Sam who did all that, he had saw Sam earlier and advised him to leave town remember (Why did he do you think?)
