Mr. Wilson was such a Jerk.

Okay, I'm wondering how an old crabass like Mr. Wilson stays married. He was such an ass to Mrs. Wilson throughout almost the whole movie. Not to mention the filmmakers made him look like Saddam Husein. This was an okay movie but there's lots of room for improvement.

He was mean, but it wasn't to the point where I lost sympathy for the character. It was a poorly written film that relied heavily on Dennis and Mr. Wilson dueling; so if making the cranky old man being overly rude to the mischievous young boy drove the conflict, then so be it.

Think, Dennis deserved it! cause he made Mr Wilson miss something he waited 40 years!

Dennis was trying to warn George that Switchblade had broken in and burgled his gold coins.

I never thought he was a jerk, even as a kid watching this in 1993 I could understand kinda how he felt.

At first glance he does seem to be kinda rough and intolerant of Dennis, but he probably was a decent old guy who just wanted to be left alone. On the DVD there's some interesting press and interviews done back in 1993 when the movie first came out, and one thing Walter Matthau said is that Mr. Wilson was just "a very old child" at heart. He might've complained about Dennis, but he always talked to him, and like even was getting into the hide and seek game the other neighborhood kids were playing.

Later on, after he blows up at Dennis at the garden party, you can see how upset he was about what he said, and speeds off to go look for him...so you can see that Dennis actually means something to him.

p.s. My only issue with George is that he was kinda rude to Martha at times, who was such a sweet old lady, very grandmotherly.

Exactly. If Mr. Wilson really hated Dennis then he wouldn't go along with his antics such as breaking into the Wilson's garage trying to prove Dennis tampered with paint or lying to a 5-year old about his daddy buying him ice cream, that being said, Mr. Wilson was truly a child at heart who appreciated Dennis' company. In the office scene he could've just told Dennis to shut the hell up or go in the other room but was willing to answer Dennis's questions.

reply

Well, he is grumpy, but he is only that because Dennis seems to cause trouble for him. Dennis doesn't mean what he does, though.

that's the point. And it's from a comic book strip. Some people just get old and cranky, but they've been together so long that the spouse still cares for them. They're not just going to separate.

It's because Dennis kept putting him in a bad mood. Personally, I'm curious as to why Dennis was so fond of him and always wanted to hang around him when Mr. Wilson was always mad at him and never wanted him around.

Yea I guess Dennis was a pest, but really he was just a kid that had a lovable side too. In the end it shows I guess when he brings back Mr Wilsons fortune and has the burglar arrested.
