Man, I feel sorry for actors trying to be professional around his asshat performance. I have NO clue what he was trying to do. Half nut job, then stoned, then silly, then coked out, then talking in tongues. Just awful!!! This is such a weird weekend. I watched Adaptation where Cage is great then I see this crapfest. The movie is pretty predictable throughout save his kookie performance.

Agreed. I have seen hundreds of movies, if not thousands; but Cage's performance in this is one of the most bizarre in recent memory. What was he going for, anyway?

My guess is that he just didn't care. He probably read the script, thought it was garbage but hey it's still a paycheck. So he said "F it" and gave the most over-the-top performance he could possibly do. It wouldn't even surprise me if he was drunk (or on drugs) in every scene he was in. I mean its no secret that Cage often overacts in his movies but I can't imagine how he filmed these scenes without the entire crew cracking up.

His cousin was the director. He basically was just free to go nuts. You guys don't understand the Cageness.
