Missing 2 Children

I love watching the reruns of this show long time ago. Its funny to say that I also watch the show when it was just the Torkelsons. In the Torkelsons, there was 5 children but in Almost Home there was 3 children: Dorothy Jane, Chuckie, Mary Sue. They were missing the 2 other children... Its like they dissappeared or something. Who can solved this "unsolved mystery"??? LOL

It's a common practice that producers of a show do(usually because of network involvment). They write characters that they think did not bring anything to the show out of the show, usually without any sort of explaination because either they think that the audience won't care or just simply because they are lazy.

I seem to remember in one episode of "That 70's show" where Donna has a younger sister. Hmmmm...

reply

Yeah, I think donna had 2 sisters actually. Then suddenly she is an only child. Kittie's dog just disappeared too.

reply

I thought kittie's dog died

On " Step By Step " I once saw reported that young " Brendan " had been let go because he was getting too fat. Josh Byrne allegedly works ( or worked ) as a bouncer or something in Los Angeles. On SBTB, originally it was also mentioned that Screech had a younger brother; and a little off topic, Zach's parents were originally divorced. On " Full House " it was mentioned in the 1st. episode if I'm not mistaken that Kimmy had 3 older sisters ( though Kimmy herself hadn't materialized on the series yet ), and later that season it is mentioned that she has a brother ( presumeably older ). As far as I can remember he was mentioned at least twice. On " Mama's Family ", Vint really did act as if he was going to be a father for the first time ever, as Naomi was preparing to give birth. Buzz and Sonia never did show their faces again. The 2 cousins that came to Hazzard county on " The Dukes Of Hazzard " also completely disappeared within a few minutes of Bo & Luke coming back home from their months gone & attempts at NASCAR ( ???? ), never to be heard from or mentioned again, even within that episode.

As for " The Torkelsons ", I only saw 1 episode of that series, but did see the entire run of " Almost Home ". So if the two missing children had been mentioned, I more than likely would've regarded it as a throw away line, if anything.

Just in case any of you are curious as to what Lee Norris (Chuckie Lee on Almost Home and Minkus on Boy Meets World) looks like now, he is currently a cast member on One Tree Hill

Josh Byrne went to my high school, and while I wasn't friends with him or anything, I was on the yearbook staff so I know that he was in the film club and he seemed to be more interested in behind the scenes stuff. He did gain some weight, but he was always "big boned". I don't know what he's been doing since high school, though. Just thought you guys would like to know that as of a few years ago, he was still atleast somewhat interested in show business, maybe just not acting.

Don't forget that a lot of that has to do with different writers on the show as well. A writer for one episode may think it's a good idea to mention an older brother or sister, and then a few more episodes later another writer may decide that the character is better left an only child. Mostly that applies to shows like Boy Meets World, shows that had long runs and a lot of different writers coming in and out of the series, as well as plenty of time to forget subtle mentioning of character backgrounds. Anybody notice how weird it was that Topanga just did a total 180 from being an earth-loving, tree hugging, hippie child to the pert, business-y, fashionable woman that Cory married? And her parents changed from being earth-loving, tree-hugging, hippie lovers to bitterly separating "normal" adults. Oh well, sometimes in shows with runs as long as Boy Meets World, continuity in plot gets lost along the way.

I was a bit confused too when the two children dissapeared from the Torkelson family in Almost Home...I don't remember any mention of them going to live with their father though...but if they did say that in the series it didn't seem like something Milicent would do. The producers for Almost Home probably thought that it reflected negatively on Milicent's character to have five children and decided it best to narrow it down to three or something ridiculously stupid like that.

They brought Kitty's dog back for an episode once. They said he had been on the floor the whole time. :P

first fo all i can't believe everyone is tlaking about people disappearing from bmw, yet nobody has mentioned shawn's older sister stacy who he called on the phone when they straightened cory's hair and it got messed up.

second of all, saved by the bell kelly went from having seven siblings to having none, or it was the other way around

third, i always wondered the same thing about ruth ann and steven floyd. i would especially like to know why the two children that were not in almost home happened to be the two children played by jewish actors. what's up with that?

reply

In almost home intro the guy that lived with them has his arms around the two kids as they wave goodbye but im pretty sure they stay with him.

That's because he made it up.

I've watched the intro over and over, there's absolutely no reference to those two kids anywhere in the intro.

reply

the youngest son from grounded for life also is never shown but they always say he's somewhere!

reply

Saved By the Bell!! Early series was totally different from the popular series. While Zack, Screech and Lisa remained(along with Mr. Belding), Nikki and Mikey disappeared(along with Miss Bliss, though you can always believe it was because she stayed in jr high), and suddenly it was set in California on opposed to Indiana. It was like being sucked through an alternate dimensional rift. Interest, considering that popular series Zack Morris became the quintessential slick Californian guy!

reply

SBTB was notorious for not following storylines. Sometimes Zach and Kelly were together, and then they would have alternate universe storylines like the beach club. Or who could forget the dual senior years? One with the normal gang and one with Tori? Kelly and Tori only existed in opposite universes. Reality or any sense of continuity didn't exist on that show.

I'm somewhat skeptical you're laughing out loud as much as you claim

reply

Someone already mentioned the right answer but a lot of people jumped all over it. Yes, the show explained that the two kids (Ruth Ann and Steven Floyd) went to live with their father. No, it doesn't make a lot of sense given Millicent hated the deadbeat guy for the entire run of "The Torkelsons," but that IS the explanation the show gave. Sloppy writing, nothing more. These aren't real people, folks! Hello?!

reply

All the posters that said that they went to live with their father are correct. I’m drunk out of my mind and even I can remember that.

reply

You are correct. The two other children were never referenced in Almost Home.

reply

Oh geez..it's not that difficult. Both the kids were simply written off when The Torkelsons was retooled and retitled Almost Home. It's obvious that the five "old" children plus the two "new" kids would've been too much. There's no way the show could have focused on that many different characters so they dropped two.

Disappearing characters wasn't exactly a weird phenomenon back then. If producers and writers could get away with it, they didn't explain the disappearance of characters or plot holes. Remember, this was PRE internet (yes, there was life before the internet) and PRE TV shows on DVD. Back then, no one figured there would be a place to watch tv shows that were no longer rerun or a place where you could talk to someone across the planet about a show that hasn't been on the air for 20 years.

Life is nothing if you're not obsessed.

im not sure why everyone thinks all this is so crazy. hey genius', sometimes, people need to leave shows! the writers either need to replace them, write them OUT of the show, or ignore it and hope they get away with it.
once in a while, someone mentions the previous character because they realize on the show, that they have neglected to explain what happened and they realize how obvious it is that they neglected it.
it was just like most of degrassi. when terri went into a coma, the actress LEFT the show. only once, WAY later does paige talk about what happened to her.
actors and actress leave shows for many reasons. and then, the writers are stuck trying to figure out what to do.
sometimes, its just too miniscule to even matter. like when shawn on boy meets world MENTIONS he has a sister...why does it matter that she is never mentioned again?
come on people! its not a big mystery. its like you expect the shows to actually have been REAL! they arent, and the actors change and leave and new ones come...it happens.

there are TONS like this.
there are 2 different moms in fresh prince. VERY OBVIOUS.
roseannes daughter is 2 different actresses.
so is the oldest daughter from my wife and kids.
they CONSTANTLY had to get new kids for barney because they got too old!

ill tell you what happened! the actors wanted to move on, their parents wanted them to go to school, they got better offers...who knows.

maybe in this case, with almost home, they felt like it wasnt important to explain what happened to the 2 torkelson kids. or maybe they thought they could get away with never explaining it because hardly anyone watched the show! i loved this show, but lets just face it, *beep* happens!

bottom line, the actors are real people, NOT the characters.

reply

Yeah that didn't matter to me and I didn't realize there were two more b/c I did not watch the first Torkelsons show. I liked Almost Home much better with the three kids and mom living in Seattle. Five seems like too many to deal with on a show anyway. Especially since they cast Brittany Murphy and Jason Marsden as the kids that Mrs. Torkelson helped with.

"Hey did you just take his wallet? He just took that guy's wallet!I think he took his wallet."

reply

This is my opinion to what happened to Steven Floyd and Ruth Anne since they didn't go with their Mom to live with Mr. Morgan in Seattle. Others say they lived with their father but he was a poor deadbeat that couldn't pay alimony or child support.

So it has to be this way. Steven Floyd was sent to boarding school for the gifted and Ruth Anne didn't want to leave the state of Oklahoma and she cried so an Aunt took her in to stay. Thats how the story line goes.

Same thing was on Doris Day Show, Billy and Toby went to a boarding school and on Grounded For Life when Henry was gone he was at a boarding school too.

reply

When the actor who played Henry left Grounded for Life, they acted as if he was still there. The Finnertys could never afford boarding school for their kids. Same with the Torkelsons. Stephen Floyd wasn't gifted if I remember correctly.
