Sydney's hustle

So every other time Sydney and Billy hustled they split the money. Why is it that when Sydney hustles Billy all the money was Billy's? Shouldn't Billy have been curious? Shouldn't Gloria have said no to giving up all the money?

You're not making sense to me.

I actually came here to make this exact thread. Why did they only play with Billy's money. That made no sense.

The hustle was: Sidney, (With Billy's $1700)and their opponents put their money up...winner takes all. Sometime before Billy even shows up, Sidney tells his opponents(who are actually his friends)that he's gonna throw the game and they'll split the winnings 3 ways. He does exactly that. Billy goes home broke...Sidney and his "opponents" go home with more money(Split Billy's money). I do agree on why Gloria was so stupid to not go with Billy to ALL the games he played to manage the money won since she knew Billy had a bad habit of being stupid with it.

I think the OP means if the bet was $1,700 shouldn't billy have only lost $850 as they both should put up half the money. Why would billy pay the whole thing it makes no sense.

There a few thing about that scene that only makes sense once you realize it’s a hustle.

Sidney didn’t need to kick in any money because he wasn’t playing to win, and their opponents couldn’t even come up with 1700 to match it. They had like 800 and a fake chain. He told Billy there was a lot of money In watts to get him to bet a lot, but it was obviously a lie. The bigger question that no one ever asks is why would you bet 1700 against 1100. There is no reason other than it being a setup to take Billy’s money.

The reason Billy doesn’t pick up on it is because he wasn’t there for the negotiation, he was still on the train. He does hear them say 1700 afterwords, but he is probably more focused on the fact that he lost to realize it

Your assertion isn't correct. Billy only put up about half the $1700 because after he came home from winning $62 from hustling Sydney in the first game, Gloria proclaimed that they had around $900. I think she said after some bills they would have $850 or so. Therefore, we can assume that after the first Sydney/Billy collaboration hustle against Raymond, where they won a couple hundred bucks, that they split that too (we must also assume Sydney put up some of the pot there as well).

Billy and Gloria only had around $1000 in total before Sydney pulled his hustle against Billy. Where did the rest of the $1700 come from? Obviously it has to be Sydney. I don't think it's ever stated that Billy/Gloria ever front all the money on any of the games. Gloria is just saying 'they stole our $1700' because she was expecting to get that much at the end of the day. Technically, had the game went as Billy planned, then both Sydney and Billy would be walking home with $1700 each.
