Anyone like the friendship?

Just saw the film again after about a decade or so. I was watching for the thrills, but at the beginning, I found myself surprisingly moved by the 'friendship' scenes. The writing, directing, acting, and music were all pretty effective. Almost made me wish they could just stay friends. Of course, I enjoyed the way things actually did play out. Leigh and Fonda were great partners in this movie.

Heddy is actually the one that says 'Family portrait'. But I agree 100%. Every time I see that scene I find it so cozy.
Their friendship was way too short-lived. I almost wished that Allie hadn't turned back into a spineless douchebag. Because even though Heddy was batsheet crazy, I actually hated Allie MORE for just that moment.
She basically kicked Heddy to the curb just to chase Sam's cheating dick around.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Yeah, that was pretty cold. Heddy probably would have been a fine friend otherwise.

I do like to imagine what life would have been life for them if Allie had found out about the murders and have been like, "thanks!" instead of flipping out.
Would Heddy and Allie have remained friends on the run, or would Heddy ditch her for someone else?

I agree. Though the movie is based around Hedy being the evil troubled roomie, I think Allie was the real *beep* She was fine with using Hedy for emotional support and happy for Hedy to run around after her cooking and cleaning but as soon as Sam waved his cheating dick at her she went running back to him. Pathetic.

See this always pissed me off too. Even though Heddy went crazy, she was right in that Allison DID promise her that the living situation wouldn't change - and then it did, just like that. They lived together what, a week before the spineless tart took him back?

And then "Sam and I want this place for ourselves." I hated Allison, if I am being honest.

What a bizarre reaction. Sure, Ally somewhat misled Hedy, but not on purpose, she honestly believed it was over with Sam. What’s Ally supposed to do, cancel her life so that crazy Hedy can live with her new besty? She even tried to make things easy for Hedy and inconvenience her as little as possible.

How you can hate Alison when the other one is a stone-cold serial killing, puppy murdering psychopath is truly bizarre.
