The first movie (1980) was shot in the Toronto area along Lake Ontario, but the events took place in the Cleveland area along Lake Erie. (For verification, observe the Ohio license plates). The two areas are only a five-hour drive in distance so the geography looks the same.

The second movie, by contrast, was shot in Edmonton, but I didn't see any Ohio license plates. Nevertheless, the events take place at the same Hamilton High, so I'm assuming it's still the Cleveland area.

Both III and IV were shot in Toronto and also involve Hamilton High. While III is connected to II, IV is more of a standalone film with the only apparent connection being Hamilton High.

Since the first film establishes that Hamilton High is in the Cleveland region it's assumed that all of these movies take place there.

I know your post is old but I was just watching this and wondering the very same thing.

I've lived in southern Ontario my whole long life and though it can get downright chilly at times in May or June, I don't recall any snow...and even if it did, the trees still have leaves, the grass is green and there are flowers. This movie looks like they're in the middle of January.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

My school had a "Seniorama" in December, which was sort of a Winter prom with a king, queen & court. Whoever was voted for the Seniorama court couldn't be picked for the Prom court in the Spring. As such, those who ended up as Prom king, queen & court were actually rejects of the Seniorama, if you get my drift.

So, yeah, schools DO have winter proms, but they're called something else.
