How many days per year did Bob Cratchett and the bookkeepers work?

I haven't read the original novel by Charles Dickens for a very long time, so I don't recall any story on employment conditions.

So did Cratchett and the bookkeepers work for Scrooge literally every business day of the year? With no breaks in-between? It certainly seemed that way when Cratchett and the bookkeepers asked/begged to take Christmas day off. That would mean Scrooge was over-working his employees?

reply

Yes. That's how it was back then. Most worked 7 days a week and only got a day off on Christmas Day.

reply

Probably yes they worked 6 days a week where eventually they got a half day Saturday.

reply

Wasn't it considered wicked to work on Sunday and wouldn't they have had Sundays off?
