What actor would have been better?

I like Chevy Chase but I think he's pretty weak in this one. Who would have been better... or would be good now?

I'm pretty happy with Chevy, really. I'd like to see more of him.

Ethan Suplee was 15-16 when this movie was shot.

If I were to imagine actors who could have starred in this 12 years ago names like Dennis Quaid or Tom Hanks springs to mind, BUT Chevy Chase is a daring move from Carpenter and it actually works! Chase does a great job!

I agree with you. Chevy is great but how better would it have been with John Cusack or Bill Paxton?

Yeah, I thought Chevy was great in this role. I'd actually like to see more of him playing more serious roles with dashes of his trademark humor... more in the tone of his character in this film. I think he pulls it off very well.

I think Chevy Chase was perfect for the part... Sam Neill was a great villain, too.... Darryl Hannah was just awful, though, her entire character should have been dropped (I believe that Nick is almost completely alone through most of the novel, he isn't chasing some silly love interest). That's my two cents, anyway...

He wasn't old enough at the time, but if they ever do a remake he'd be a good choice.

I thought the combination of Chase's dry whit and Carpenter's Dark Direction married perfectly.

I thought Jim Carrey would have been better...but Chevy Chase was OK.

At the time, I think that only Chevy, or maybe Dan Aykroyd could have played it.

This is one of the few movies I liked Chevy in. He usually hams it up too much and it interferes with the plot; but in this one, he downplays it and I thought he pulled it off very well.

Cats are delicate dainty animals who suffer from a variety of ailments ... except insomnia.

Chevy was just right for this. He was really good as a man on edge.

It was also his idea to be filmed visible some of the time and invisible at other times. That worked well and helped the movie, IMO.
