Now have not seen this film, but how is it possible that Jack Nicholson was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor and RAZZIE for Worst Actor? Has that ever happened before anywhere else???

yes, I think Halle Berry Won the oscar for Monsters Ball and also won the Razzie for the same preformance. I'm not sure but I think she won the Razzie.

Cinematic blasphemy.
Really, his worst role/film was "Anger Management."
But that was the fault of the screenplay, not any of the cast.

Cats are delicate dainty animals who suffer from a variety of ailments ... except insomnia.
I think Nicholson deserved an Oscar nomination for Hoffa, he really engrosses himself in the character, he doesn't just 'Play Jack', and I've read that he was very disappointed that he did not recieve a nomination.
But to explain how he could get both a Razzie and GG nod, 'Hoffa' is one of those movies that can inspire very strong feelings in people, because of the subject matter, the directing style, and the fiction/biopic way the story is told. I don't think anybody would say he didn't play Hoffa brilliantly, but if you hate Hoffa, that'll turn you off. Personally, I think it's an excellent film, but I know a lot of people who deeply hate it as well.

The Razzies often nominate based purely on how hyped a film or performance is, not based on quality of film or acting. George W. Bush "won" for appearing in Fahrenheit 9/11. They are just trying to make fun of the Academy Awards and actors and films. You shouldn't take them seriously.
shareThe point of the razzies have always been to nominate major actors in films that didn't do well. And hoffa didn't do well money wise. In my opinion, its one of nicholsons best performances. Not at the level of cuckoo's nest, last detail, chinatown, as good as it gets, or about schmidt...but its on the second tier of his great performances...its a great performance and deserved an oscar nomination that year. I'm a big admirer of hoffa...i feel the man was given an almost impossible situation and did whatever he could with a good cause in mind. I have an uncle who's a truck driver and to this day he speaks of hoffa as a godlike figure and is very thankful.

I recently caught some of this film on FMC and was reading up on it online, and I was surprised to learn that Nicholson was nominated for a "Razzie" for his performance. I have always felt that his performance was excellent, and in fact was the only reason to watch this film at all. When the movie came out, I was working at a movie theater, and one of my coworkers who was old enough to remember the real Jimmy Hoffa said that Nicholson simply WAS Hoffa, his performance was so dead-on. We were surprised that he wasn't nominated for an Oscar for the role.
Usually when the "Razzies" come out I agree with most of their noms, but not in this case.
Razzies are stupid and I don't even think there funny. I think that there more about putting people down when there art is not commercially received well. Sadly the Oscars also buy into the fact that if a film is not commercially successful the film should not receive Oscars nominations. This is why Jack Nicholson did not get an Oscar nomination for Hoffa and Russel Crowe didn't get a nomination for Cinderella man. I'm proud to say that I own Hoffa and Death to smoochy both got razzie nominations. While Razzies will keep there nominations awards show going by skimming the box office broadsheet to see what film didn't make alot of money as there nominations.

Anybody who thinks he deserved a Razzie for "Hoffa" must be a "Jack" fan who was disappointed that he played a character instead of just doing "Jack".
