All the praise for this movie?!? It STUNK!

I'm a pretty avid horror movie fan and have to tell you, thought this movie blew BIG 'OL MONKEY CHUNKS!

Time & time again I've put off watching this one and finally I obtained the newer WB version via trade...and was I dissappointed. Minimal scares, annoying laugh (after the 2nd or 3rd time...sorry Larry, I do love you in Darkman), toned down kills and the constant barrage of humor a la later encarnations of Freddy Krueger! I can't believe so many of you like this. Maybe if I had seen this back in the mid 90s, I might've thought differently, but seeing it now, its a WEAK slasher and an even WEAKER attempt to create a new "baddie" to make a series of films (if it succeeded, they would've found a way to bring him back!)

3/10

I actually really enjoyed this movie. Easily one of my favorite slashers.

My reaction is the opposite of yours. I first saw this back in... 1993 and hated it for all the reasons you stated (the toned down kills, the humor) and anyone else I knew who saw it said it probably would have been more well received if it was released around 1985-1988 by 1992 it was outdated! I watched it recently on youtube for the first time since 1993 and found myself enjoying it.

I actually had a Dr Giggles / Lawnmower man double feature and I'll at least say it's better than Lawnmower man.

Now that's not saying much but yes people need to stop acting like this movie is quality. It's sort of got some laffs but it's so bad it doesn't quite fit in that so bad it's good.

Wanna see funny horror, watch Critters or Ghoulies 2, or Evil Dead 2 or better yet, Dead Alive
Even Killer Klowns from Outer Space...May not really be scary but at least the humor in those are actually funny.

even if those are quality films, and they are.. how many times can you seriously watch them without knowing every single beat and moment.. and you want to switch it up. Is Dr. giggles probably more on the lower B or C team? Sure it is.. is it entertaining in its badness? yes. It's something different. It's not the one you've seen a hundred times over.
