Best things/worst things about this film

What do you think the best things about this film were?

And what were the worst (aside from Keanu)?

The most profound of sin is tragedy unremembered.

I love everything about it...plot, style, soundtrack, effects and especially Oldman's performance as a tortured soul. It's one of my most favorite of all time movies. The way he hugs her on the bed and the end shot of the mural with that music both kill me every time I watch it.

Please, go...Stop smiling, it's not a joke. Please leave...The party's over. Get out.

The entire film is a sumptuous visual feast. Gary Oldman is superb, Winona winsome and occasionally touching, Hopkins a hoot, but Keanu a cardboard actor. But the death of Dracula is quite moving, and underscores the hypocrisy of religion, that this man, who truly loved his wife, was made to suffer by the blind dogmatism of "the faith." His Christ-like demise and paraphrase of Jesus'last words was brilliant.

Positives:
1. Sumptuous visuals - rich color and photography, studio sets, gorgeous fruitcake costumes, beauties of Mina and Lucy 😀.
2. It´s entertaining.
3. Great score.

Negatives:
1. Title. Script was pretty much showing middle finger to the novel. Drac in love, Mina as Elisabeta, Lucy the slut etc
2. Vlad the romantic hero!? Vlad probably spins like crazy in his grave, where ever it is.
Love story was fun, but Dracula in love was mistake.

Best thing: I thought the look for Dracula was original compared to most of the other movies, which usually copy off Bela Legosi.

Worse thing: Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing was just too much of a comedian.

reply

I would say the scene with 3 hot, naked vampire women. Hands down.

Best

Gary Oldman & Anthony Hopkins
Music Score
Faithfully to the original novel

Worst

Romance between Dracula & Mina
Winona Ryder
Over-the-top acting
Turn into a love story

I have to question whether you actually read the novel. The movie is not faithful to the novel. There are significant changes from the novel.

Best thing = over all cool flick.

Worst thing = The quick / short battle with Dracula at the end, I wanted to see a long 20 minute or so battle with him all through out the castle. Then a final scene with them back home in London.

reply

There could never be a battle like you suggest, since they previously told us that Dracula has the strength of 20 men, maybe more. Any drawn out fight would realistically be won by Dracula.
