Plot hole in the Highlander Universe

What about the inevitable lifetime incarceration some of them must get when they get caught killing someone else, immortal or otherwise, and they never grow old and never die? Has there ever been an explanation for this?

all humor aside... everyone else seems to have the plot hole mockery down...

but as to 'life sentences' plenty fake their deaths and escape from the Autopsy Tables...

but on the other hand you also have to factor in the Crushing Bureaucracy of the Prison system; the people in charge don't see people they see Numbers and jumpsuits... also evil immortals are not known for playing well with others so if one racks up Solitary they might have minimal human contact, ie fewer people to see them Not age... so you combine these two factors with staff turn over and the Immortal in Cell 125 becomes a Prison Legend and the Warden(s) simply don't look up until they get hauled out Feet first, which never happens

I can't believe I'm replying to a thread that is almost five years old, but there was indeed an episode about a criminal immortal that was locked up for decades. Duncan was responsible for putting him there, and when he finally got free he was pissed (as you can assume). I don't know the title, sorry.

Anyway, this wouldn't be a big problem for an immortal. All they have to do is find a way to commit suicide in prison. It takes them a while to heal and 'wake up', as we've seen. Then all they have to do is hot-foot it out of the morgue.

The Highlander world does have a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense, it also has things that seem a little too convenient to the plot:

When there's a Quickening event there are never any civilians around to witness it.

The swords always appear out of nowhere and there are never civilians around to witness the sword fights either.

Duncan usually has a history with most of the immortals he encounters in the modern day, this doesn't make sense considering how big our world is. Duncan was a man of the world but it seems unlikely that he'd know so many immortals.

Immortals can get killed, then walk out of a morgue when they are revived and no one notices. The cops also don't seem to notice or care about all the headless corpses that are mounting up, unless the watchers take care of it as was mentioned. I find it hard to believe they would know the location of every dead immortal though.

Lots of immortals use long swords when something smaller like a machete would be easier to conceal. A gun would also be easier to hide and more practical yet not many immortals use them. They could blast their opponent with a machine gun then cut his head off.

Pacifist immortals don't bother to stay in groups with other like minded immortals for safety in numbers, if an evil immortal shows up you'll have a better chance working in a team. The same goes for evil immortals who always seem to work alone, Duncan is always fortunate enough to take on a bad guy one on one.

Society doesn't know about immortals even though one of them would probably expose the whole racket: a guy who doesn't know he's immortal dies and then comes back to life, the guy is amazed to be alive but scares his family when he re-emerges. In a situation like this the press would probably get wind of it.

I love the series so I can suspend my disbelief.

There has been a few occasions where Duncan hasn't known the immortal trying to kill him like Roddy Piper as Anthony Galen in Epitaph For Tommy! Plus when a new immortal turns up and threatens you, that is a new experience for you even if it's another cventury before you see them again surely!
