FINALLY!! I Have TWO Mirage tracks (links inside!!!!)

I dunno why I never bothered to check the IMDB about this movie before??

I thought I was possible the only person EVER who wanted these tracks so badly.. I first saw the movie when I was 11 and I just loved the music throughout. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I just got the DVD - the first thing I did? ripped whatever tracks I could.

Now, I could rip "Standing In The Rain" & "Rise On My Own" PERFECTLY because during the movie, there is no cast dialogue over the music. I have linked these two tracks below :o)!!

UPDATE!! - August 2nd, 2009 (three years on and still going - both links still alive and over 250 downloads!!)
UPDATE #2 - April 18th, 2013 (original links had over 1,000 downloads each until they were taken down. New links now live)

Mirage - Standing in the Rain (192kb/.mp3/04:47/6.60mb)

Or.. you could always just leave your e-mail address in here and I'll send it to you. Whatever you prefer. I'll be checking this message from time to time to see if anyone comments.

Ian,

I only have two words for you right now - THANK YOU!!!!

The movie "Pistol - Birth of a Legend" has always been one of my favorite movies because its themes go beyond basketball, and so does its music.

Although I kind of play basketball, I am more into the martial arts. And, as a martial artist, I have some difficult times ahead. I am supposed to be testing for my first degree black belt in a couple of months and need every advantage I can get to pass that test.

Thanks to you, I can now practice, train, work out, and generally prepare myself using the inspirational music you have provided. So, thank you very much and wish me luck.

I actually rented this movie over ten times at my local grocery store before finally double taping it with 2 vcr's. Awesome flick that really inspired me as a young kid to practice basketball endlessly and it helped me have a great high school career. these are good songs thanks man.

Ian you are the man! Thank you so much for the link to those two songs much appreciated!

Ian,

Thanks for putting these links up. I have been looking for both of these songs for the better part of 17 years ever since the film came out back in 91.

My only gripe is that the quality of the MP3's you posted isn't all that great. The songs are clear enough to listen to. But they both have a lot of static and distortion. In all honesty, it sounds like you held a tape recorder or a microphone up to the TV while the movie was playing, and just recorded the songs straight off the TV.

I really do appreciate you posting these MP3's because I have been obsessed with tracking these songs down. I just wish the quality was better.

They were ripped at the highest rate possible from the DVD to my PC's hard drive and then encoded to 192kb. Clearly this is the best that anyone else have ever managed to come up with.. you're wishing for better quality from a DVD rip, then you're asking too much. Hopefully Brad can get some music up here for us!

hi, im brad hanratty,i wrote those songs in mirage......the band became"green vinyl dream" they have a few amazing cds out. i quit in 1994 as the keyboard player, and they stayed together until 2004...never got signed despite tours with many big time artist....thanks for the comments and go to greenvinyldream.com for more great music

reply

Brad,

I was curious about something. I went to the website, and read the band's bio. There is no mention of anything about them starting out as Mirage. I am not trying to call you a liar. But often times, people just want to get the word out and promote. All I am saying is that you would think a band would list their old and new names in the bio to give people a sense of their overall history.

I wish that Mirage had put out a soundtrack to this film because one of the reasons I loved it so much was because of the music. I searched high and low for years trying to find a soundtrack to this movie as well as any CD's by Mirage. I had no luck in either case.

i was the keyboard from 1985 to 1994.....the band never got signed, i left the band and they wanted to redefine themselves,im real happy and not trying to promote anything, however i am getting in touch with my old producer and trying to get some of our music.i do have all of our music including all of themusic in the movie, but its is on cassett tapes and a 45 record...old school

reply

I believe you when you say that you wrote the songs. In the film in the end credits it says who wrote them and sure enough your name was there. Not disputing that.

I just thought it was weird that GVD did not mention the fact that their name used to be Mirage. Usually when a band changes names, they make mention to who they used to be so fans of their old music can follow them over.

It sucks that the music from the movie isn't available on CD. All the music in the film is great.

I have to say that my favorite is Standing in the Rain, with Rise on Your Own a close second. Dreamers is also good too.

there is no mention of mirage because we played los angeles for 9 years and could not get a record deal.we were turned down by every company and when i left the band, they were still in search of a record deal....new band....new identity.....they could not keep going back the the record companies as MIRAGE. the guy who made the movie, had never made a movie before, and while he was shopping it for distirbution,he turned down many big movie companies including DISNEY.very bad for the movie and us. after turning down disney and other companies, Chic Filet picked up the movie but its was shown only in the south and went staight to video. i do have a video of standing in the rain on vhs...might be one of the only copies as it was never released..if you want to call me at 818-706-7716, ill mail you the tape, look on the pistol movie credits on this pistol board and you will see the names JOHN hajewski aka john gregory, rick zaccaro, and rick holten....the same guys in GVD.the band mirage would not be found because we were never signed despited being sponsored by budweiser and getting a sigle on thr radio in 1988 call i cant stop now" thanks BRAD HANRATTY

Brad,

Thanks for clearing that up.

I notice you have an 818 area code. That is Southern California in LA or Burbank right? It is funny because I lived in Burbank for almost two years. I went to a post production school down there for editing. I graduated about 6 months ago. I am now breaking into the industry as an editor.

I am a short form editor covering trailers, promos, music videos, etc.. I had to move back to Northern California (San Jose) because the rent down there was killing me. While I was in school, I had to pay 900 bucks a month for a master bedroom in a three bedroom apartment. The thing that sucks is that all entertainment work is there and what I really want to do is cut movie trailers and music videos. All I get up in San Jose is corporate work. Editing is editing of course. But the content is boring.

To keep my skillset up I always edit music videos/montages and trailers of my favorite films and shows. I bring this up because I am actually going to cut a tribute video to Pistol :Birth of a Legend. I am most likely going to use Rise on My Own.

I would definately appreciate a tape. Check your PM box. I sent you a message...
