Least favorite Ghibli?

My general impression is that while they have made some absolutely wonderful movies, they have a few stinkers, too. The only one I haven't seen (including Ocean Waves and this one) is the Cat Returns, so I can't comment on it. My least favorites are Nausicaa, Laputa, and Only Yesterday.

Favorites are Porco Rosso, Pom Poko, Yamadas, Spirited Away and Castle of Cagliostro.

My least favourite Giblis are Kiki and Ponyo. Myiazaki does have a tendency to portray slightly perfect heroines, but Kiki was way over the top perfect for my taste. Ponyo's story went too haywire towards the end, which was unpleasant because actually the story of this movie was a little story (unlike Nausicaa, Laputa, Howl or Mononoke), so a less sensational development would have fitted it much better. Like, say, the development in this movie . Only Yesterday became instantly one of my three most favourite Giblis - along with Spirited Away and Howl, slightly above Mononoke (although this one needs a rewatch). It is fantastic in every way, not to mention that it has one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a while.

Whisper of The Heart. It's not a bad film by any means, it just wasn't my cup of tea and I was bored through most of it.

Only Yesterday is the same for me. I found it it slightly more enjoyable, though.

Opinions. I love Nausicaa.

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me. -Commander Shepard

I rewatched this film about a month ago, and I have to admit it's risen up the ranks for me. I still think it's a little too long and some of it could have been condensed, but it's a solid film - shows you have to face your past before you can move on with your future.
