Similarities to Grapes of Wrath

Do you notice the parallels to The Grapes of Wrath?
Ranchers vs strikers.
Families pulling together during adverse times.
The powerful vs the powerless
Locales: San Juan Bautista, just up the road from Stenbeck's Salinas valley
Innocent man compelled to fight for the oppressed.
A river ...
Now, what comparisons can you find?

The two oldest sons (Jake and Tom) both kill someone.
Both have family members die.
Both have scenes were one worker is telling the father about how the ranchers are cheating the pickers out of money.

I like how the writers make it clear from the start "We're not Okies, we're from Texas!" because that really sets this story from Grapes of Wrath.
