This has got to be one of the worst 'films' ever made. Seriously- a talking freeway sign???? WTF??? How in the hell do people actually thinks this is a good movie??

A freeway sign interacting with people is beyond belief? Do you believe in vampires? Do you believe in a "galaxy far, far, away"? Do you believe all the myriad of monsters and characters on tv and in the movies? Movies are simply a way to escape reality and enjoy a story. L.A. Story is a terrific film. Relax and try to enjoy the whimsical nature of this film if you ever see it again.

I really like Larry Crowne, but I wouldn't call it a classic.
But LA Story is a classic. And as previous posts have mentioned, you kind of have to be familiar with LA when this movie was released to get a certain joy from it. (Yes, there was a rash of freeway shootings.)
i think it's quite funny. the surreal moments like the talking sign etc are a bit like a Woody Allen film.
