I desperately need an explanation of this film! *spoilers*

So, for starters, I found it very boring. I usually love artful films like Amadeus or la Vie en Rose (to give a french example), but this I just found purely boring.

I thought that it would be a story that cut back and forth between the two veronica's. Two parallel and equally interesting stories that go side by side and then come to some brilliant conclusion. Instead, the first part of the film was with Weronica, and then when she dies the story transitions to Veronica.

I didn't understand what was happening toward the end. What was the conclusion about the existence of another her? I noticed that she had that scar on her finger at the end, from the door slamming on it. Does that suggest that they're in fact the same person? Or I forget.. was it Veronica who was in bed telling that other guy about how her finger got slammed in the door? If that were the case, then what would be the significance of showing that scar again at the end? And if it was Weronica who got her finger slammed in the door then how does that explain Weronica dying then and yet Veronica still being alive?

Help!

Thanks

"I didn't understand what was happening toward the end."

Lucky you, man. I didn't understand the beginning, middle or end. We need a Kieslowski fanboy to help us out.

I didn't find it boring, though. I plan to rewatch it soon. Kieslowski needs some digestion time before you can properly assimilate his stuff.

"Help!"

I second that motion.

It could be, but if you didn't know the Director and is intentions, you might think he was saying to you "Hey stupid, I didn't painstakingly made this movie puzzle for you to not figure out, all the answers are there, otherwise you are leaving my work without proper vindication."

You were probably expecting some action, or at least something practical. Well, this movie is about feelings. About emotions. The movie is all revolved around emotions, their emotions. You just looked too much into it. You'd just have to watch it and enjoy the beauty of the feelings and emotions expressed. For example, the puppeter is sugestive. The way he discovers their lives and plays with them... sort of like God. Or the old woman. Or that woman that gives bad looks to Veronique all the time. Or the way relationships with they fathers are portrayed. Or the black lace that Weronika keeps... when she sings, she pulls it and it becomes straight, just like when someone dies in the hospital (at this point we know that Weronika has a heart condition). They are not explained in the movie, because that was not the idea. The idea of the movie was that all the things in the world are connected. Hence the last scene, where she touches that tree and her father the other one and he feels the presence.

I always thought that scene was suggestive too, because the tree she touches is alive, just like her, while the other one, the one her father works with is dead, like Weronika. And they feel the connection because, and i reapeat, everything is connected. So no, Veronique is not the same person with Weronika, (as you can see they actually meet each other, and that phenomena is called doppelganger and usually announces death.)
As someone once said, Kieslowski is pure visual poetry with deep philosophical message, but not everybody can understand that.

My favorite movie of all time. I was swept away by the beauty and mystery in this film. Sorry you did not enjoy it, because there if something there if you try not to look too hard.

What were you expecting from it, and why did you watch it? I see it as you get with twins sometimes - a kind of connection between them. Here we get two unrelated women, but connected by appearance and perhaps time of birth. Some unknown connection exists between them, which V feels when W dies. Then all these similarities and coincidences they share.
