Daniel Day Lewis would have made a better Jim Morrison. Who agrees?

Not that Val Kilmer did a bad job, but I think Daniel Day Lewis would have done better. For one, he looks quite a bit like Morrison and, for another, he has proved he can do the eccentric bit through 'In The Name of the Father'.

Very interesting POV you all have going here. Here's an idea. Build a time machine, go back to about 1990 or so and pitch your idea to Oliver Stone. Or better yet, why don't you all meet up, pool your money together, go out to Hollywood and shop around the idea of him as Morrison just because. No matter how long it takes, just do it because Oscar winners are more important than the rest of us. I bet it'll make a very lucrative offer. *evil smirk*

You laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at you because you're all the same.

Kilmer not only gave a "spot on" Morrison performance, all of the "in concert" tracks in the movie are Kilmer not Morrison singing. The movie could have been better but I think Kilmer's performance was great.

Kilmer nailed it ! Period.

and he can be an amazing actor (Gay Perry in Kiss Kiss , Bang Bang anyone?) Just think he has made some AWFULL choices scriptwise.

But in Doors he followed OS vision to a tee.

I wouldn't call Val Kilmer a decent actor...he's mediocre in my opinion. But he owned Morrison. He was perfect for the role.

lol, I'm sorry peeps, but I have NEVER looked at DDL and thought of jim morrison.

has anyone seen THE THING?, in that film, kurt russell looks alot like LA WOMAN era morrison, imo

While Daniel Day Lewis is one of the most versitile and talented actor, he for one does not bare any sort of resemblence to Morrison, he might be able to get the voice down but still we all expect him to bare a bit of a resemblence but DAy Lewis has this brick face with cheekbones visble, Morrison had a different face entirly and Kilmar looked and talked like Morrison even fooling the real Doors with his singing.

I think it's funny how people think DDL could play any role. Not true. He is a GREAT actor, and one of the reasons is he is VERY selective with his choice of roles. He rarely picks a role that does not suit him. So it seems he can play any role, but he just picks the right ones for him.

Good post. Too bad more actors don't share DDL's sensibility regarding the selection of roles.

Daniel Day Lewis would make a better anything.

As much as i love DDL, and believe me, he's probably my favorite actor... i simply can not agree with you.. Val Kilmer nailed this role, like a glove.

I don't think Day-Lewis could have bettered Kilmer. Plus Morrison wasn't eccentric, he was troubled.

I totally agree!!! Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the kind actor. He's one of my favourite actors and he would do a brilliant performance, as he usually does.

No,no,no,nooo! Daniel Day Lewis is a hugely ugly guy,but still a great actor,..who doesnt resemble Jim Morrison in any manner.Personally,I think Lost Boys Jason Patric was the perfect person to play him. When they did Lost Boys, they showed this by showing Jason and Jim in the cavern lair, kind of over imposing the portrait with Jason closeups. They were really close in looks and build.Just my humble opinion. :)

Val did a great job but the movie was not that good.

Its that man again!!
