DVD or Blu?

so will us stoopid Americans ever get this film on a digital format? Hell, I will gladly pay for any version (is there a 5 hour cut?). Many yanks like myself adore this film thanks largely to its soundtrack, style, scope and ambition. Warner bros. seems to have nothing but contempt for UTEOTW. Criterion gave the misunderstood Walker(87) a beautiful release about a decade ago so could they get the rights? Shout Factory, Anchor Bay, even Mill Creek could give the movie a nice transfer(if nothing else).

I'm in the US and I've had the long version (280 minutes) for several years. Just get a DVD player that can play Region 2 disks (you may already have one, although you may need to enter a code to unlock it). A very good 3-DVD German release of the long cut is out there, available from Amazon's European sites (among other places). The only drawback is that it only has German subtitles, which leaves you on your own for figuring out the small parts of the film that are in French (mainly in the first hour).

Thanks TopFrog. I will look into that.

There is a French blu ray of a restored director's cut 5 hour version (from a new 4K scan) the first week of December 2015. It supposed to be English friendly except when they speak foreign there are no subtitles (under the director's decision). They keep pushing the release date back.
Sure it will be region B though so you will need a region free blu ray player.

Supposedly there's also a Criterion version in the works: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=267417.

The long version recently shown on TCM had English subtitles for the non-English parts.
