Only thing that annoyed me..

I love this show so much! To me it is one of the very few shows that are equivalent to comfort food. The stories had enough suspense to keep you watching without the use of excessive violence to get their point across. Also, I loved how it combined both a crime drama with a family drama. It was too bad they cancelled it because I read that if season 5 had continued on instead of coming to the abrupt end it did, the show would have moved in a different direction focusing more on Tony's home life and making the crime aspect secondary. The only complaint I have is why the majority of victims/suspects always had some connection to Tony. They were either his or Rachel's friend, relative or colleague or a part of the immediate Scali family itself. There were very few episodes where the "bad guy" or the victim didn't have some direct connection to Tony or the Scali family. Case in point, there's a season 3 episode in which Rachel is taken hostage during a bank robbery. At the end of the show, they show a sneak peek for the next episode. Tony is hiding in some bushes doing surveillance on a mob boss. The mob boss is on a date with his new girlfriend. When the girlfriend walks by the window Tony says "Mom,nooo!"
"The fewer suspects the less work for me. My ideal is a 40 hour week."

A very interesting point, and something that never occurred to me. If I had to guess, I'd say it was either because they felt there had to be some special reason for the police comissioner to get involved in so many otherwise routine cases, or they thought the audience would care more about the stories if there was a personal involvement with some cast member.

i've noticed it after watching a few episodes, you seem to be right, i don't know if i had noticed it either though if i hadn't read it here first, i got a bit diffrent look on the violence though, this show doesn't seem to be so out of violence to me.

i'm so affraid,
still every day,
never know by the next minute,
every sudden sound is like a nerv stinger,
please hurry here night,
let me hide in your calm a while,
never feeling safe here,
living my life in fear,
if only i could stay away,
i'm so affraid.

Well, maybe that was the way they wanted the show to go. What is wrong with that?

True, but the "personal connection" can't possibly be worse than Angela Lansbury on Murder She Wrote. What a sad life, she knew or had a connection to almost every single victim that was murdered!
