I've never seen this film

not interested to be honest. But I was watching an old documentary on the making of The African Queen and there was an interesting anecdote about the book this film is based on. Apparently the author sent a draft to Houston and asked if there was anything he wanted taken out. Houston replied no, and later sent notes with suggestions that made the lead character more unpleasant. There is also a point in the documentary where some one said Houston did not, and would never, shoot an elephant.
