shareI would say that she probably contracted Hepatitis C from sharing needles. Being in poor condition from the start, she probably couldn't battle it well.

Did you think her life was beautiful? Living with her cheating husband, totally on his terms, and probably not free to leave, because psychopaths don't take kindly to being left?
But yeah, better than the brothel, I reckon.

As part of her punishement, after she got her ass kicked and her face cut deeply, she was put into a whore house by Tibby.
There in the whore house, they kept her on a regime of what in the movie appears to be HEROIN. They wanted to put her into hell. They wanted to turn her into a junkie whore. Like my ex-wife.
Notice how she is more and more out of it in every whore house scene? I think Stowe is trying to act out that her character is becoming an addict. She has sex with whore house customers all day and the only thing she has to blur what is going on around her is the heroin. Stay high to avoid the reality.
The character doesnt seem to have any will to live.
I may be reading far to deep into it...but thats what I got out of it anyways.
I always figured between the unprotected sex and sharing needles it was Hepatitis or AIDS.
shareI'd have to say it was the combination of endless unprotected sex, needle drug use, any number of STDs, battery, and additional infection due to the face scar. After all, I think they just stopped the bleeding of the scar and didn't likely add any ointment or peroxide or anything. So, you combine all of that with the emotional trauma of worrying about Jay's fate and the terror Tibby inflicted combined with being cut off from everything she ever knew and there was no way she could have survived. She was incredibly tragic.
Why doesn't Tony Scott make films like THIS anymore? That in and of itself is even more tragic. Man On Fire probably comes close but it ends up still second to this because of all the hand crank footage and editing. That film, like this, gets better over time, but this (REVENGE) is still the better film.
According Wikipedia she died of AIDS.

Interesting you bring up Tony Scott, because I had no idea he directed this. This is a far better edited film than anything else he's done.
I have a love/hate relationship with this film, because I think the first half is intriguing (but definitely not my kind of film) but I love and hate the second half, because while I love a good revenge thriller, this was a tough film to watch as the two protagonists are put through hell. Reminds me a lot of Last Man Standing, but no where near as satisfying.
