Compare to Leon

I am hopefully going to rent this movie soon, and I am just wondering how it compares to Leon, mostly in terms of action. Leon could easily be my favorite movie of all time, with some of the most original and unique action I have ever seen, along with the best love story I've seen in a movie. So I'm asking if Besson was as on top of his game with this one as he was with Leon.

I definitely preferred Nikita over Leon. I found Leon to be really cheesy and I didn't really enjoy it. This was a good film though, more realistic

Since Nikita was released before Leon I guess Besson just got better at filmaking and also had far more money for Leon :)
I've seen Nikita before Leon and even though Leon is a great movie I really prefer the cold realism of Nikita. Would I have seen Leon first, I might have thought differently...

Leon is my favorite movie as well

I would say both movies are well made; after all, both include great action scenes, excellent music scores, and a good story. Although, I must confess, I feel a little closer to "Leon" since it may have been just a little bit better than Nikita in terms of story and that indefinable movie magic. Then again, since I'm an American, I might relate more to "Leon" since that took place in the states and was a bit more Americanized in its style.

I saw Nikita at the cinema many years before I saw Leon, on dvd. I love them both. I think Nikita is a little more raw and Leon more polished.

I relate to the above comment strongly though not American

These are 2 of the best movies ever made and it does not matter if you liked one more than the other

Rather than consider which is better, I wonder which I will watch next, they are both so good

Nikita is a far more complex movie than Leon which was just an archetypal good vs. evil fairytale.
Nikita is much darker and more realistic. The fact that Nikita kills for the government further gives it a political dimension.
Also there is the constant inner conflict of Nikita, realizing for the first time since being sober and having a (near) death experience the value of life. But the big moral twist is: Nikita can only cherish this "life" as long as she kills other people! What a brilliant plot device!

Finally Nikita is a far more influential movie than Leon. It's visual style and characters have been ripped off by numerous movies and TV series like Alias, Hunted, Long Kiss Goodnight, Kill Bill...

It's a fun little thriller, but Leon is on a whole new level, no wonder people still talk about it two decades later.
