Child-like Princess/Empress

Reading the posts from this board, Neverending story board, and Noah Hathaways interview, it's pretty official that the Child-like Empress/Princess name is "Moon Child". Why doesn't Bastian (or anyone) call her by that name? Was this done in the book as well?

I asked my wife to play the Child-like princess drinking game with me, everytime they say Child-like we would start drinking. She refused, ended up drinking alone.

It's probably for the same reason that most Americans wouldn't address our idiot-elect as 'George'. ;) Just out of deference to the person's status.

In the book, Bastian DOES address the Empress as Moon Child maybe once or twice. He also uses that name when he is talking to the book-seller later on. Maybe saying the Empress' name 'wears it out' faster, though? I'm not sure. ;) And she is definitely an Empress, not a mere princess. She never imposes her power on anyone, though, hence the 'child-like' part of her title.

Well, didn't anyone notice that in the first film, no one called her the Childlike Empress? I think maybe one character did one time, and then everyone refers to her as that in the second one. *shrugs* Just an observation.

Dude, you'd die of alcohol poisoning!

I remember watching this movie in the theatre and getting so annoyed by the constant reference to her as "the childlike Empress." It was so annoying! I couldn't stand it! I'm still cringing!

Actually, the Childlike Empress's name is used in the first movie. When Bastion gives her her name he goes to the window and screams "Moon Child". It's a little hard to distinguish what he's saying but I'm sure this is it.

Plus, she looks like a child, and the wearing out of it is probably where the saying "That's my name, don't wear it out" comes from.

I remember reading a review of either this film or the third one where the reviewer commented that the "child-like Empress" seemed about as child-like as Drew Barrymore (b. 1975).
