Can anyone reccomend some literature...

...that would sit well with Metropolitan?

I have already read Fitzgerald's stories like The Great Gatsby, but I am looking for others now.

If you could, I would like to hear of novels that have the same crispness as this film. New York atmosphere. Etc.

Thanks.

I think James's The Awkward Age is very a propos.

I just read a book by Nancy Mitford called Love in a Cold Climate that definitely fits well with this movie. A really charming and clever comedy of manners.

Good choice. I'm currently reading "A voice from old NY" by the above and enjoying it. Hope to get to "The Rector.." eventually.

All the stories by John Cheever.

The film tried to capture the Cheever atmosphere almost point by point.

Very late to the party, but this thread has so many excellent recommendations it deserves a bump.
Adding to the several authors already mentioned, I was reminded of Donna Tartt's 'Secret History', although that one goes to a much darker place eventually.
