Why isn't this great movie out on DVD? It is a superb flick. Jessica Lange gives one of her best performances. And, even though Kathy Bates has a small role, she is terrific too. I'm sick of all the bad movies that are released; and don't understand why the studios hold back the good ones.
shareI don't have an answer, but I just wanted to reply to let you know I have wondered the same thing. This is a great film that seemed to get totally overlooked. I'm glad to have a good VHS copy. I'm starting to think about just converting it to DVD, because you and I are probably the only people who'd buy it on DVD.

Is there a way to send a request that it be released on DVD? It's one of my all time favorite movies. I have it on VHS and my sister tried to record it onto DVD but was unable to ... encrypted or something. I'd really like to see it (and preserve it) on DVD.

It's been one of my favorite movies for a long time too. I don't know why it is not on DVD. So much junk is on DVD, so why not this good movie?

shareI was on a business trip to Pittsburgh when this movie came out, had a few hours to kill and went to see it. I thought it was amazing. I've seen it several times on cable and have been wondering when it will be out on DVD - I'd buy it in a heartbeat. An underrated movie that has an appeal all its own.

There are so many horrible films out on DVD, it is insane to me that this one isn't out yet. And I know the second I break down and buy the VHS they will release it on DVD.

I haven't heard when it will be released on DVD either and I've been waiting, impatiently for years! I have to guess that there is some sort of copyright problems as it comes from Geffen which is no longer a studio and I'll bet it has to do with licensing for the music. Thomas Newman is my idol and the soundtrack isn't on CD either. This is a great, underappreciated film with wonderful performances all-around. Especially Jessica Lange, Joan Cusack and a very young Chris O'Donnell.

shareI've always liked and respected Roger Ebert's reviews. Especially his print reviews. However, I was disappointed when he only gave Men Don't Leave two stars.
I really like most of the Warner Archive Collection. About 250 of the films in my collection came from it.
Good performances, but this is pretty TV-Movie-level stuff.
