I've seen the 1990 movie & read the book - The 2017 mini-series stars Samira Wiley as Moira - (I like her on Orange is the New Black), but I don't understand how she would be a handmaiden, I thought the Republic of Gilead was not in favor of diversity - (maybe Moira is just at the club in the mini-series?)
shareAlthough I generally like the new series, my one beef with it is that they softened the repression of the original story and made it so the Republic is accepting of Blacks among its population. This was not a part of the book, and at least the movie retained this. Considering the climate we're living in today and how this country has swung even further to the Right, I think it would have been a stronger and more relevant story with this element.
