So why does Esperanza take over the plane?

He puts his life in danger by putting a bullet through the window. He knew that team would look after that plane, he did mentioned it was planned for months. Why did she do what he did.

I feel like it would be impossible to fly the plane with a missing wind screen in a blizzard. I think he should have frozen to death. Ever stuck your head out of the car window going 60MPH? imagine 3-4X that speed in a blizzard. Even if he didn't freeze, he would not be able to fly.
