'Operation Strangehold' to 'The Colombian Connection'? Why?

Anyone know why they changed it?

It may may have been the other way around. I think the film originally had the subtitle 'The Colombian Connection' before being changed to 'Operation Stranglehold'. There was similar discussion on this message board.

In the film, the main villain is from the ficticious country of San Carlos.

It is possible the studio decided to change the country's name to a ficticious one at the last minute. I am guessing the reason for that was not to label Colombia specifically as a drug producing country. They may have already created the opening and end credit titles before the change was made. The Colombian Connection subtitle has been removed from the poster artwork and replaced with the subtitle Operation Stranglehold. They used the same Operation Stranglehold subtitle on the video and laserdisc release. The DVD release is simply titled Delta Force 2.

Some releases still contain the Colombian Connection subtitle, while others contain the Operation Stranglehold subtitle.

That was a way more detailed response than I was expecting. Thank you for that.

The more recent Kino Lorber DVD/blu ray has the Colombian Connection subtitle at the opening credits. A more fitting title(and much cooler) considering the drug cartel plot, Operation Stranglehold sounds too much like a G.I. Joe film and very cheesy lol.

Surprised it wasn't 'Stranglehold'.
