Read if you want to know if she really was Caroline

Of course she wasn't. That really was not the point. But come on people, this movie came out in 1990. Why do endings always have to be a big secret.
I hate wasting my time watching a movie if the ending sucks. People on these boards always have to be so superior - "I've seen it, but I don't want to spoil it for you and it would spoil it if I tell you"
What a crock. Let the viewer decide if they want to read a spoiler or not. These are not National secrets for christ's sake!!

"Caroline" was a nurse who cared for the grandmother. The grandmother wanted to save the crippled girl, so she taught fake Caroline everything she would need to know to return from the dead and keep the stepmother from getting the fortune, as well as freeing Heidi from being a baby the rest of her life.

Big deal. It was s decent movie and knowing the ending ahead of time does not change that. It's not like a huge revelation like Bruce Willis being dead in the 6th sense. Oh no!!!!!!! Now I ruined that movie for the 2 people in the world who did not know that!

I knew it was not her in the first few minutes, the smile on her face in the cab told it all..like she REALLY pulled it off, and she did!
of course the father wanted her to be Caroline, so he accepted it as truth.

It was a very good movie, I loved it. its better than the book and the book was good. Stephanie zimbilist really acted well in this part.

The more interesting thing in the book is the man supposed to be her "father" takes a romantic interest in her (though she looks like his dead daughter) and so assists her in pulling it off. It's been years since I read it but I do know Mr. Carmichael and new "Caroline" were attracted to each other. I don't think it was ever consummated. Interesting stuff in a book for young adults.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have said everthing that I have been thinking since I discovered IMDB years ago. I watched the movie but received a phone call & missed the last half hour. I just took a chance on reading the board, never really thinking I would find out what the truth was. What a great twist to the movie.

You sound like a sourpuss that enjoys ruining people's joy. Did you also open all your sibling's Christmas gifts before they woke up? You probably go around spoiling people's surprise parties as well.

mswallace9's summation of the ending doesn't quite do the film justice. It seemed to me Grandmother Atkins wanted Martha to pose as Caroline primarialy to keep her inheritance from going to Paul's new wife; helping 'the children' may have been mentioned as another possible benefit, but not specifically "freeing Heidi from being a baby the rest of her life." The reason I mention that is because when Martha got the money she could have just left town, and that would have fulfilled her obligation; however, once she met Heidi and Winston, it was HER OWN decision to stay and help them, not because she had promised Flora Atkins. May sound trivial, but it's actually a major plot point.

Just because many people seen a movie is no reason to spoil it and it is very considerate to others to not want to reveal spoilers. And unless a person put a spoiler warning ahead of their comments the viewer can't really decide if they want to read the spoiler or not, now can they?
