Alcohol into the gas tank? WORST idea ever.

There goes your fuel injection manifold which will take you months to rebuild, despite the fact that you're getting shot on Monday. 

Well he actually says a month but I think one could be forgiven for speculating that Doc might have tried to tweak the system to take the liquor. I'm not saying it wasn't a desperate act but since he was getting shot on Monday and there wasn't going to be a gas station around until the next century anyway the FIM was useless, broken/or fixed. It didn't really matter what they poured in.

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

Yeah, there are certain engines that will run on alcohol, but the DeLorean isn't one of them. Doc would have known this but most casual viewers wouldn't. If Doc didn't try it, viewers would have been screaming for him to try alcohol.

Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.

There are so many things they could've tried - some car engines can even run on vegetable oil, for crying out loud.

Also, does the time machine HAVE to stay in DeLorean form? What if he stripped the core essence of it and built a gigantic glider? Nah, probably not feasible. How about a swing of some kind, where required speed is .. how about altering the 'required speed'?

What about 'speed' makes the time travel-effect happen? Why is speed essential? Aren't we already shown it ISN'T? DeLorean was hovering in PLACE when the lightning hit it! All they have to do is replicate THAT somehow, and then activate Mr. Fusion, and BAM! Home free.

WHY would Mr. Fusion only work with the time machine, and not help with propulsion, especially considering the car had future modifications that allowed it to fly and hover? Surely the energy that made THAT possible, could be used to make the car at least move?
