Lethal Weapon + Air America

Shane Black's Lethal Weapon is strickly based on this story, the Air America scandal. How ironic? Mel Gibson starring in both.

I realised this a while ago. While looking at the overall plotting of LW, I came to the conclusion it can basically be seen as a story about what Vietnam vets get up to once they get back to the States. When the term 'Air America' is used by Hunsaker, I thought 'wasn't that a Gibson movie as well? Maybe there's more to the story'. And so there is. There's also a doco called Shadow Company out there too I believe.

"Lethal Weapon" came out and was filmed well before "Air America". The 2nd "Lethal Weapon" came out before "Air America". I have not read of anything about them being related or Gibson doing "Air America" because it was a plot subject in "Lethal Weapon". "Air America" never dealt with any really shady violent characters associated with it that "Lethal Weapon" did.

i did the same exact thing. watched lethal weapon tonight and heard the line abut Air America and thought.... isn't mel in that movie as well. reminds me of the tie in to the movie where danny glover says "i'm getting too old for this *beep* and "don't I know you?... nah."
