Steven Weber

Even though John Ritter will always be the king of physical comedy, does anyone else think that Steven Weber had the potential be the next great physical comedian, he was historical on Wings. A very funny and talented guy. He seemed to be really good at voice impressions to.

I agree. His timing was always perfect. I enjoy him in just about anything I have ever seen him in but Brian will always be my favorite character.

"Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night"

One of my favorite Brian centered episodes was, when he started putting on a lot of weight from junking out, and everyone kept telling him to slim down, but he kept getting bigger and letting himself go. You are right about his timing, he was spot on, another favorite episode was the bank dick, every time I watch it, I laugh till Im out breath, when he first shows up in the cop outfit and everyone starts making fun of him.

I also love "The Bank Dick", but my favorite Brian episode is definitely "Murder She Roast" (the one where he suspects Faye is a serial killer). Laugh out loud at the scene in the kitchen every time I see it!

"Twilight follows the brightest day, And every cat in the twilight’s gray,
Every possible cat."

Murder she roast is my favorite episode too. Love the kitchen scene.

Brian maybe carefree and irresponsible but everytime there is a tense situation he becomes the reliever to ease the tension like when Joe confronted her mom and Helen having issues with Joe. He is somehow sweet and sensitive.

In my opinion, Weber was hands-down the best actor on the show. Lowell was my favorite character, with Brian #2. But man, Weber's delivery, his natural way of reciting his lines. I'm no acting expert, but I'm surprised he didn't leave a bigger mark in Hollywood.

'Burning Down the House'

He's a remarkable talent. Can handle drama as well. I enjoyed Weber on both Murder in the First and Studio 60.

Brian was the funniest character on the show because of his role. So he lucked out in a way. SW did a fantastic job.

There's one episode in which Steven Weber's portrayal of Brian seemed to be "off" and out-of-character in comparison to all of the rest of the episodes. It's the one called "Sports and Leisure." That's the one Roy discovered that nobody likes him, they don't want to invite him to their social activities; it ends with Roy joining the gang for a game of Trivial Pursuit. Brian just didn't seem himself during that episode. Have you noticed that? Brian, most of the time, didn't smile in the whole episode (only once, very briefly); just constantly negative and he even tried to be quite cruel to Roy. Even in the scene where Roy was in his office crying, Fay, Joe, and Helen were laughing at the sound of Roy's blubbering, but Brian was hiding his face, and we couldn't see whether he was laughing too.

I agree with you that Steven Weber was great at physical comedy, but in that one episode, I don't think the writers and Weber himself were being consistent about Brian's character traits.

reply

I never felt that he was out if character in that episode. I thought he was the usual Brian. He knew Roy always ruined everything and didn't want him ruining their plans too. Plus he had to put up with the image if Helen's unshaven legs and Joe's lemon wedges and paper towels.

I always had a crush on Brian Hackett and Hawkeye Pierce. Don't know why, they are both womanizers, but cute and sweet womanizers.
