This show is mixed with horror and comedy, and why should it be?

Yeah, and later on the X-Files would do something similar.

I think the comedy adds to the sureal feel at times.

I watched the original series a year or so ago for the first time and now watching the film before the newer series. I've found the show is hard to define because it isn't just one thing. As others have said before it sometimes feels like a parody of soaps but also a dark soap in its own right. There's elements of mystery and police procedural, comedy and horror and probably others.

And why? I think the show keeps your guessing. By playing around with multiple genres and ideas you never really know what's going to happen next
