I like Joe Devola...

He kept himself in shape. He was a lover of the arts. He was talented enough to get a meeting with NBC, and he got Elaine's phone number in 2 minutes. It's not bad!

I like Crazy Joe Davola. His is the voice of a new generation. My generation. And I'll be damned if anyone disparages his character in my presence!

"He kept himself in shape."

This does not make anyone a good human being, just a worshipper of the physical body, which is a form of narcissistic materialism.

Also, anyone can keep their body 'in shape' (whatever that means), and psychopaths and control freaks have even more reason for doing so.

"He was a lover of the arts."

Two blue lines on white canvas, artwork called 'Untitled', was sold for millions.

Toilet glued to a wall is considered art. A shoe is considered art, if the owner of the shoe says so.

But even loving 'beautiful, actual art' would not be a proof of anything. Remember that Hitler was also a lover of the arts, and in fact, pretty skilled painter. Did that make him a good human being?

Also, Joe Davola (not Devola! If you LIKE someone, the LEAST you can do is get their name right!) is not a 'lover of the arts' (which sounds creepy in itself - think about what the word 'lover' means usually).

He is -obsessed- about a -specific-opera-story- for his own, psychopathic, delusional reasons, and he gets so immersed in that story that he thinks Elaine is Nedda! You make quite the leap from -that- obsessive, psychotic paranoia to 'being a lover of the arts'.

"He was talented enough to get a meeting with NBC"

We actually never se proof of this - and you don't have to be 'talented' to get a meeting. I mean, look at George - he got a meeting, and NO ONE IN THE WORLD would agree that he is 'talented' in ANY way or any meaning of the word.

He could've just been wandering in the building after sneaking in by manipulating people or whatnot. He's a delusional psycho, you seem to be forgetting that.

We just see him in the building, then we hear him claim something. For all we know, he was being interviewed for a janitor position or his family member works in the building, or 972 other possibilities. Why would you take his word for it (or anything)?

He also has no social skills, no manners, and is threatening in tone.

"and he got Elaine's phone number in 2 minutes."

How exactly does this make him a good human being? So he's horny and happens to luck out at a moment, while talking to a psychopatic idiot hag, and you think this is some kind of an achievement?

It's exactly because it's only a short amount of time that Elaine knows nothing about him, so basically she's giving a complete stranger her number, not because he's so skilled in PUA tactics (just another method of manipulation), but because Elaine is so desperate for a man (possibly on her period at that point).

Also, it's a written show, not real life - so of course he's gonna get any number the writers WANT him to get - not really proof of anything good, not really a show of skill, not really realistic, and so on. It happens because writers wanted it to happen, not because Joe is something 'good' inherently (or otherwise).

"It's not bad!"

Really? Why do you think it's not bad? This guy is extremely evil and psychopatic, no remorse, no fear, no guilt - he would kill you without feeling bad about it, and you think there's no 'badness' in there?

You have a very distorted, warped worldview if you think it's not bad.

It IS bad. Very bad.
