Does the very end of the film imply...


...Bill is also one of the creatures, he and the Society just weren't aware of it? Was that the point of the scene where he turns that guy inside out?

Just watched this and was wondering the same thing.

Also, why did the family adopt/raise him in the first place? I didn't understand the purpose of it all.

I think they raised him to be food/genetic material for the others (and assumed he was human, I guess). Screwing with his head seemed to be like a sport for them.

The tie-in comic apparently clarifies he's a hybrid (half Society species and half normal human) but I don't know the canonicity of that.

I don’t think so. He didn’t actually “shunt” Ferguson. He just took advantage of his morphing state and reached up into him and pulled him inside out.
