Do you blame him

the guy looks decent, has a good job, etc. why would he want to stay married to an unattractive, fat, slob of a wife. Maybe he loved her, but i feel what he did was right

reply

Looks decent?? Have you SEEN that hair???!

Born when she kissed me, died when she left me, lived whilst she loved me

Actually, yes, I do blame him. If Bob no longer could stand the sight of Ruth, the honourable thing to do would be to divorce her and then go off with Mary Fisher, Olivia, or another flavour-of-the-month crumpet. There is no need to be a coward and sneak around while still married. It sets a terrible example for the children, too, who definitely knew what was going on.

Ruth may have been "undesirable" (to put it nicely), but she still deserved to be treated like a human. Also, we must give credit where it is due: Ruth did attempt to be attractive. She did her hair, nails, make-up, shaved her legs (and moustache!), and tried to dress sexy. She experimented with cooking new dishes for Bob, and kept the house running.

After watching this movie last night, I wondered the same thing. Roseannes character didn't have any sort of redeeming qualities what so ever.

Your post was bound to get contradicted. The film is made for good-for-nothing housewives who still think feminism is in. Women who think the only obligation they have as:
- mothers is buy clothes for their kids;
- wives to open their legs.
Ruth was a bad mother. She couldn't cook and she was trailer trash. That's not a good example for any kid. Her son puts a ton of sugar in his cereal. She doesn't know how to cook, how is she supposed to raise kids? As far as her success as a wife, she did not have ANY respect for her husband. She was fat, ugly and very possibly lousy in bed. If she loved her husband, she would take care of herself. It is very disappointing to wake up next to a woman like that. But noooo, as soon as the man cheats, it's his fault.

I can't stand pseudo-feminists who think cheating is the real problem in a marriage/relationship.

reply

There is no way you can excuse cheating (= deceiving and lying to your 'loved one') Split up and than move on to another woman/man if you don't desire your own partner anymore. This is the only fair option to both parties.

Cheaters are egotistical people, only thinking of their own situation and what works best for them. That's why cheaters stay in a relationship..because that situation works out best for them. They always want to have something to fall back on, just in case their affair doesn't work out. It's all about me me me when it comes to cheaters.

If you as a man or a woman are not happy in your relationship than you should talk about it. If you can't work things out than both of you should go your own way.

reply

I would normally agree with you. I don't understand why one would stay with their partner if they are no longer in love with them. On the other hand, getting a divorce is financially painful and the husband knew he was going to lose a lot of money. Why get a divorce if you can keep the money and have someone you care about on the "side"?

It's all about me me me when it comes to cheaters.

As I said, I think the wife is the one who was not respectful to her husband so she got what she deserved.

Because that is not fair to the other person..you only think about yourself and your needs. Divorce or you can discuss to have an open marriage, so both have something on the side.
If you want to protect your money than get a prenup before you marry someone.

By the way: how was the wife not respectful in this movie? Did she cheat on him? Did she treat him like trash? It's been a while since I've seen it but I don't remember Roseanne's character to be disrespectful to her husband.

reply

^ agree with you all the way here

reply

Yeah really, HOW is she disrespectful? She goes all out to look nice for his party, she spends all day cooking his favorite meal for when his parents come to visit, being respectful does NOT mean letting your husband walk all over you while he's banging a stupid romance writer with the IQ of a bottle cap.

reply

Ruth wasn't disrespectful that title goes to no good hubby Bob who been cheating on Ruth for quiet a while and please Mary Fisher wasn't Bob first mistress and that op didn't pay attention to pre dinner scene were Ruth busted her but over a hot stove cooking her for prick cheating husband favorite dish and that she bring appetizers for Bob parents and Ruth trips what does Bob do nothing it was his mother who help Ruth up and there Bob instead of him asking Ruth if she okay he give her a dirty look and during the dinner scene when Bob discover Ruth accidently cook Herbie which Ruth didn't know at the time the rat getting into mushroom soup and that when Bob blow his fuse and start bad mouth Ruth in front of their children.

No. It's idiots like YOU, marcos_ho who are the real problem in a marriage/relationship.

Bob was abusive, cruel and a womaniser. As has been pointed out already, he didn't cheat on Ruth only (and I doubt very much that it had been the first time either) he cheated on Mary as well. He was neglectful and abusive to his children. The only thing he cared about was what others could do for him. It's obvious you're trolling but I had to respond.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

reply

She may have been unattractive, but she did her best with her appearance (remember the beginning when she's trying to look nice for him?) yes, she was fat and ate bad, that can't be denied. However, she was no slob of a wife. She cooked, cleaned, took care of the kids and loved them. Even while Bob was cheating on her she worked harder than ever to win him over when he got over Mary. Bob was a womanizer jerk and there's no excuse for that.

Also remember Ruth did try to lose weight for Bob but he was to busy playing hanky panky with his mistress to notice Ruth trying lose weight

Well, he loved his wife but got a better opportunity with Mary. I think there is a moment when he says, "How did you end up with a bum like me?" to Mary, which shows that to him, he never thought this fame would happen.

reply

Yea I blame that low down dirty junkyard dog! He had no business cheating on his wife with that whore Mary fisher. Yes Ruth was a little overweight, and a bit clumsy but that didn't give him the right to cheat. She loved him and tried to make him happy. And no she wasn't a slob. If she were a slob she wouldn't take care of the house or have a clean kitchen or shower herself or wear make up or take care of herself. She was not lazy unlike Bob who expected her to be perfect. She went to great lengths to look beautiful for that party and he didnt appreciate it at all. Not to mention the new outfit and shoes she bought. She deserved better than him. Im glad she got him locked up. He had it coming.
