The Attic scene always bugged me as a kid and it still bugs me now

I am rewatching this classic but it always bugged me how Clark stayed in the attic after he fell through the ceiling. sure he landed on a bunk bed but he could have crawled through. if he really wanted to watch movies he could have gone back up to the attic and got them.

sure I get why he stayed there from a humor perspective. it was so when the door to the attic was opened he would fall again. it seems like they were just trying to have their cake and eat it too and give us both gags instead of settling on one. it's a bit of a nitpick really but it's never made much sense.

this thread is a riot, like a construction discussion, i love the first reply. i like all the classic christmas tunes in the movie and especially ray charles' "spirit of christmas" playing while clark is stuck in the attic i think has become a classic after this, this was probably first time i heard that tune, featured on ray charles 1986 christmas album in case you want similar tunes. even though i've seen this through the years i didn't recognise the guy in clark's office from married with children until now, many view this as their favorite vacation movie, how often does that happen with a sequel third movie in a series. brian doyle murray is a riot as clark's boss. well everything is a riot, i'm guessing when clark is on a rant and uses the f word is cut/changed from alot of airings. i don't even like to mention the 2014 vacation movie around here, but since they were gonna make a sequel anyway, as popular as these movies are, why in the world would you use a new cast and put the original stars in tiny roles after they have agreed to participate in it. too bad they didn't go with a sequel to this with clark and ellen in the main roles celebrating christmas with having the family over. maybe even cousin eddie would have been invited back despite of "christmas vacation 2".

only fellas around on christmas time,
colourful lights around seem like an empty frame,
without a darlin in centre place,
cant find a cheerful melody,
honey to work with,
surroundings upside down,
without a darlin at christmas time,
head hangin low,
grey sky all magic gone,
without any spark and warmth,
how is this the norm,
where did all the darlins go.
