"After Hours" completely reminded me of this movie... it's because of Miracle Mile that I think I loved it so much! The thriller movie "Judgment Night" - despite a totally different plot - also had a similar feel to it IMO.

As far as plot similarities, however, I can't think of one off-hand. There are lots of post-apocalypse movies, but very few pre-apocalypse movies, especially not from the "everyman" point of view (there are those like By Dawn's Early Light and Failsafe).

I immediately thought of "Night of the Comet." Different type of wipe-out, but definitely a more up-lifting story in the long run.

In terms of similarity, "The Day After" captures the whole Cold War-era nuclear apocalypse scenario quite respectably. A bit dated, but it still packs a punch.

But the day after is just amazingly "icky", it made me feel really bad - it's so "real" in a sense.

But yeah, night of the comet, Last Night, Omega Man, stuff like that.

For some true-to-life, gritty 80s drama, watch Threads. You can find it on YouTube. It's both pre and post-nuclear war. Not apocalyptic, but scary as hell to watch.

If you want to see one that'll make you want to slit your wrists then check out "TESTAMENT". It's another nuclear war film.

In a way, there is Testament (1983)
