WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!

Seriously, HOW THE HELL IS THIS FILM RATED IN THE 5s! This movie, along with Bloodsport, deserve to be on the Top 250. They DO NOT make them like this anymore! Some of the crap films in the Top 250 and this isnt!? Gimme a break! They don't even come close. This is, without a doubt, a classic.

This film is a solid 10/10. The music, the training sequences, the fighting! Pure testosterone flick. Love it!

Nothing will ever beat 80s action flicks!

i heartily agree, cant believe its so low, watching cyborg now, another classic

All of the top 250 films should be composed only of Van Damme's movies

What about Arnie? You simply cannot leave him out. And Stallone. But yeah, I agree, these are timeless masterpieces :-D ...I hope that my children will enjoy them the same as I do :-D

reply

I love Cyborg.

I'm also surprised at the very low rating that Kickboxer has. I figured most action movie fans would enjoy this one...at least a 7 or even a 6. Ah well.

DISPLAY thy breasts, my Julia!

reply

totally agree on cyborg especially... i give kickboxer 8.1/10 and cyborg 7/10...
both brill movies!!

reply

Dude the acting is bad, especially Van damme's, I agree 5 out of 10 is very low but this should never even come close to the top 250 movies. It's just an amusing fighting flick, nothing special.

Really? I though a rating of 5 was a touch on the high side.

I concur. Kickboxer is easily Van Damme's best movie, and one of the best of the entire 80's in my opinion. *beep* Kill Bill and WALL-E make it onto the list but not this classic action movie? What's wrong with these heathens?

Most of the action films seem to come in at 3-5 rating on IMDB even when they are really good. Cobra was a lowly 4 rating. Hard to Kill at 5. Van Damme's AWOL at 5. The mighty Death Wish 3 was in the 5's.

Even rare violent spaghetti westerns, that are highly spoke of on dedicated fan sites come out with middle to low ratings.

All the new big films tend to have high ratings. More people participating in the site. Guys just flood them with big ratings. It's good - so here's a 10!

I don't bother with the ratings too much. If I like it, then it's good enough for me.

No, no, no, it seriously doesn't belong in the top 250 :D, it's not a brilliant film, its an good action flick that I enjoy every once and a while but its nothing more then that, the acting's cheesy, the stories cliqued the music is very retro and the actions brilliant, its not a bad film, its a fun film but there's nothing there to warrant it to be in the top 250, it doesn't have a deep and interesting story, it doesn't have brilliant characters, it has a real cool villain, has a lot of cheesy corny dialogue and it's heavily inaccurate.

In order for a film to deserve be up there in the top 250 it has to have characters you give a *beep* about, this film (along with most Van dam/segal movies) didn't have characters I cared about, it didn't, I couldn't have cared that his brother had got his back broken, I probably would have cared if they'd spent more time setting him up, giving him emotion showing more about him, but no they just show him as an arrogant American thinking he's best in the world and gets paralysed for it <Shrug>.

In order for a film to deserve be up there in the top 250 it has to have a deep engrossing story, this movie didn't it's pretty much karate kid with a different fighting style (that ironically he doesn't use once in the movie despite seeking out some one to train him in that style) and motivation.

Sadly some a lot of the movies on that list don't have either that I've mentioned mainly because as said by one of the posters when a new film comes out the die hard fans blitz the reviews with greatly exaggerated scores.

Like I said Kickboxer is a fun little action movie but it doesn't belong in the same list of the likes of Shawshank, Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Empire Strikes Back, Lock Stock, It simply doesn't belong in the 250 there's no part of this movie that puts it close to being one of the best 250 movies ever to be made.

P.S

Before the die hard Van Dam fan replies to this with utter hate, please, please, please make a sensible reasonable argument of why I'm wrong, and not just ZOMG!! VAN DAM IS KING YOU NOOB TARD.

reply

I love Van Damme movies, but I hated this film, Bloodsport, and especially Cyborg. Sudden Death is his best, in my opinion

For the most part I agree with what sovvolf said in his/her first paragraph.

No way in hell I could put this in the top 250 films of all time..even by imdb standards. If that was the case there should be a whole lot more martial arts film that deserve to be in the top 250 before this.

As far as Jean Claude Van Damme Films not sure where I rank it because Ive only seen so many of his films I've seen all the ones that were release in US theaters and only some that went direct to video in the US, but I did find Hard Target, Sudden Impact, JVCD, Maxium Risk, Time Cop, Universal Soldier, US Regeneration and Bloodsport all better on various levels. The worse two films I seen him do were Cyborg and Knock Offs. Kickboxer definetly better than those two and better than Legionaire and a couple of others whose name escape me at the moment.

reply

I agree mate, it's not a top 250 by any means but it's still a classic.

Pretty much anything from the 80s action flick wise is i think, especially looking back now. Rocky ... (Put them in there), Commando, terminator, aliens, predator, lock up, over the top, cobra, scarface, the sound tracks alone on these films make them iconic. Like i said, i'm an 80's guy lol.
