This film isn't bad at all.

Sure it's my least favorite of the original Halloween series but just like every installment in the original 8 Halloween films this has problems but those problems don't overwhelm the majority of great traits the films actually has.
I'm very surprised fans of Halloween 4:The Return of Michael Myers say this is awful when in reality it's almost on par with Part 4.
I'll appreciate Halloween 5 for what it does offer more than what it doesn't.
It isn't as good as A Nightmare on Elm Street 5:The Dream Child to me that's a underrated film but it isn't as bad as Friday the 13th:A New Beginning.

This movie would've been a lot better had they waited a year to tweak it and didn't have so many confusing plotlines. Why make Jamie mute, why kill Rachel, a fan favorite the way they did, what direction did they really want to go with the man in black?

With that said, it is a decent film. I've certainly come to appreciate it more over time. Good intentions, poor execution. Part 4 was only rushed due to the writer's strike and of course, the mistake of blond Michael in the school. It's better than 5, though. Clown cops, crying. I did like the gothic feel, the Myers house and Shanks as Myers himself.

I hated Nightmare 5, not many likeable characters, didn't care for Alice or Lisa Wilcox either, personally as the main lead. She was fine in 4. Seemed at that point they were reaching. Freeing his dead mother, using an unborn baby's dreams?

As for Friday, it gets a lot of grief for not having the real Jason, which pretty much doomed the franchise. 6 was excellent, but fans were still pissed about 5. It was okay, if pointless. Didn't further Tommy's story any as 6 ignored it anyway. Not many likeable characters and just death fodder. No real story progression.

But that's just my opinion.

I agree Halloween 5 had so much potential to be better than it actually is but that could be said about any film.
The reason why Halloween 5 is my least favorite is because it doesn't really have much that sticks out about it at least Halloween:The Curse of Michael Myers as silly as it was at moments had a few stand out moments.

I adore Elm Street 5 it's whacky and insane but it's charming as-well.I hate most of the Friday the 13th films anyways so yeah Part 5 didn't work for me.

Halloween 5 is pretty good as are A Nightmare on Elm Street 5:The Dream Child, and Friday the 13th:A New Beginning. i really need to watch these movies again soon

Halloween 5 has some stupid moments with Tina and the clown cops, but I like it because it actually is a scary film. Michael Myers comes off as more frightening than in Halloween 4 and in later films and all the stuff in the Myers house is intense. I also really like the scene in which Loomis calls out to Michael in the woods about controlling the rage inside him.

Totally agree. 5 is darker and one of Pleasence's better performances.

This one unlike some of the other films also actually feels like it takes place on Halloween with the fall-like atmosphere and all the Halloween decorations and costumes.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) - Movie Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSAzH0vLJTk

Michael Myers is back with a vengeance...and a garbage movie. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is the middle chapter of the Thorn Trilogy and a low point for the franchise. Terrible story directions, annoying characters, and a version of Loomis that should never have existed all come together to create a viewing experience that not only nostalgia can shield you from. Halloween 5...you did this to yourself!
