you NEVER kill a dog in a movie. NEVER.

...because American moviegoers are a big, fat, dumb bunch of infants who can't possibly handle the earth-shattering complexities of a CANINE death...!

I quote Wikipedia:

The film received a certain amount of backlash regarding the 'mutant' dog, in particular, the scene where Martin mercifully euthanizes the dog, which is hideously deformed and kept in a large observation room. Many viewers were disturbed by the dog's appearance and sad fate as mentioned by Chris Walas in the documentary for the Special Edition DVD. He said the audience would feel more sympathy for a mutated animal than a human.

Michael Bay even made his views clear on the subject during the "Armageddon" DVD Commentary. YOU. DON'T. KILL. THE. DOG!! I mean, people just can't handle it!

I agree.

Watch 'Evilspeak' sometime.

See what the result ended up being in that one.

Well duh. I mean dogs never die in real life, so why should they in fiction?

Can't stop the signal.

reply

Or you end up as Bartok did at the end!

reply

Which was sweet.

reply

Probably true. Hitchcock did the same thing in "Sabotage" (1936) and always regretted it. Who cares if awful humans die? I don't. But poor defenseless animals? No way.

You need to grow up.

Michael Myers killed a dog in halloween and halloween 4

reply

Was there any such backlash in The Thing (1982)?

reply

Not sure about The Thing, but it was cut out of Terminator 2. You can only see the T1000 kill a dog in the directors cut.

reply

Well, it was a huge box office flop. Don't know if it was because of the dogs.

reply

People who throw a fit over a dog getting killed crack me up. Especially in horror movies were people are getting butchered left and right. Good Lord it's just a movie.
