Fletch or Fletch Lives?

Which do you like better?

In my opinion,Fletch was better.

fletch, but the sequel was underrated...

it's very funny... but a lotta die-hard fans are obviously
going to say nothing compares to the original... like with most sequels..

reply

I love both, but I'd still have to go with the Original. Perhaps it's cos it's the one I watched the most.

reply

I say Fletch, but I will agree that the sequel is highly underrated. I love both movies.

reply

I would have to go with the original Fletch.

I never cared to much for Fletch Lives, mainly because they took Fletch in a direction I did not like. It became slap stick comedy first, story and mystery second. If you can track down some the novels (finally got a copy of Confess Fletch, the last one I need to read) you can see why I was disappointed.

As a side note, I think the first Fletch novel is the worst of the bunch, so far Confess, Fletch is the best.

reply

I think they're pretty damn close, they're both great. chuckreis- if the movies were like the books, they wouldn't be considered comedies, or would at least be considered dark comedies. The books were decent, but they don't compare to the movies.

reply

The story in Fletch was a lot better, in the second the story was merely a side note. However I found Fletch Lives far more funnier.

reply

Have to agree with Kram,
The first is the better film, but Fletch Lives has been making me laugh since it was released. Brilliantly funny in its own way, Chase is the man.

Who cares what I think...

I saw fletch lives first and it cracked me up way more than fletch. I didn't know anything about these movies, saw fletch lives on TV. Bought Fletch thinking it was the sequel and was like - "what's this crap?"

Gimme a break, Amen

I loved the brakes for the caddy, every time he went to stop it was hilarious, all the different things he would run into.

I also agree, Fletch Lives elicited far more laughs from me than the first movie.

reply

In my opinion, Fletch is better. There are very few sequels that can stand up to the original.

As mentioned, the first is better. The sequel is underrated.

I think I preferred Fletch Lives, just slightly.

It's made from bits of real panther, so you know it's good...

reply

Just watched both in the Fletch collection. First one is definitely better, but the second is also underrated. Chase made that and Christmas Vacation in 1989 and he never had a good film since, unfortunately. I forgot how damned good he was at dry, deadpanned delivery. In fact, out of all those comedians from the 70s and 80s he was the best deadpan.

reply

Easily the first. Just finished watching Fletch Lives and I didn't care too much for it. Too many disguises. Chevy wasn't a comedic machinegun like the first. I went in with my expectations a bit high, but I looked low and still didn't see it yet.

Lady, I never walk into a place I don't know how to walk out of.

I enjoy watching both of them, but for me, it's "Fletch Lives" just by a hair.

Fletch Lives is funnier

The original is better, but Fletch Lives is a very good sequel, much better than most people realise.

"Fletch Lives". "Fletch" has grown on me, but "Lives" I dug straight away. The story isn't as clever, but I found it more humourous.

I always make it a tradition to watch "Lives" around christmas every year. Don't know why, but I just do.
