Why is this film out of print? I would think it significant enough to remain in print. I was looking to see if a BluRay of this film was available only to find that even the DVD is not anymore. In fact, the cheapest DVD copy on Amazon is $50 and it goes up from there. It makes me feel good to own a copy, I guess. I had no idea it was worth anything more than about five bucks. Still, not selling.
It's been a couple years since the OP, but amazon.co.uk has been selling brand new Region 2 DVDs of this for a while now, direct from Amazon as well as from their affiliated private sellers. I bought mine for $5. They were going for 3 pounds just before Christmas.
Checking eBay, I've noticed people are paying $40 - $70 for the Region 1 release. That's insane! I paid $40 for a multi-region DVD player AND the R2 DVD.
People really need to get with the program and go multi-region. It's saved me an immense amount of money, and allowed me to see films that simply aren't available in R1.
I got the dvd for like $8 on Ebay but it was the Korean Release and parts of it was edited (some nude scenes blurred, I know bummer right?!?). Other than that if you want to see it you know what is going on.
ALERT: This is streaming on Netflix now. I remember trying to buy the DVD 5 years ago and not being able to because the cheapest one was $35-40, and I'd just splashed out that much on the new Criterion re-release of Salo. So I had to rent it from my university's library.
But last night I got to watch it on Netflix! :D Downside is a bunch of casual Netflix watchers gave the movie low ratings because they didn't understand it, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of watching it again!
