The first couple of scenes are awful...

I hadn't seen this movie in over 25 years and my wife had never seen it. We couldn't make it past the first 30 minutes or so. Nobody in this film acts normal, it's like watching aliens pretending to be humans, especially the party scene.

This is so strange coming form Spielberg who normally hooks you in the first few minutes of any movie he's made during his prime years.
