Women - Do you love it like we love it?

Just curious...

I think we'd all agree that certain types of movies tend to appeal to specific genders, and being a Western, Lonesome Dove might seem more of a guy movie. In my opinion, it's one of the greatest films ever made on so many levels - acting, music, depth of character, effectiveness of storytelling... yet I'm always torn when it comes to showing this film to women, unless they express some specific interest in it.

So, tell me ladies... Is a Western like Lonesome Dove up your alley? Why or why not?

reply

I first watched this when I was 18 because I was reading the book and Tommy Lee Jones was in it. Tommy Lee Jones! (sigh)

I loved this movie as a little girl, and I still love it as a young woman! I ususlly don't like westerns, but this movie is one of the exceptions. Lonesome Dove is very poignant and moving and I can watch it any time!

I watch this movie at LEAST 4 or 5 times a year. I have so many favorite moments I can't even begin to list them. I just finished it again tonight on Encore.

Amazing, wonderful movie. Spectacular performances by EVERYONE, even minor side characters.. There are no small parts in this movie.

I actually got into the story when my hubby read the entire book aloud to me one summer sitting on our front porch. I kinda wished I had some pigs to listen with us LOL.

reply

The mention of the pigs reminds me of Gus in the beginning. "I ain't giving you no biscuits! Git!"

No Sparkling Wiggles here!

I'm a woman, and I love it completely. Gus McCrae has my heart.

Thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

I think it's the perfect "bromance" movie. Gus and Call are like an old married couple, they've truly loved each other for decades but wouldn't dare speak it aloud. So, It's great to see the chemistry of such a long relationship, and truly heartbreaking to see it end.

I'm 26 and I loved it!!! I want a cowboy! Gus or Woodrow, I don't care.

I like it very much. I find it humorous, sweet, sad and violent. I'm upset that Gus died, though not as upset as Lorena and Call.
