Im confused about the ending. Does Nichols want us to be happy shes achieved her dream, or is he making the point she has become another boxed in office worker like thousands of others?

shareYeah both, not thats theres anything wrong with being another "boxed in office worker" - a job is a job at the end of the day, so long as it pays well and you feel like you belong and are making a slight difference to something then it doesn't matter if you are like many others. Plus she seemed happy enough, why not - she had her own office, her own secretary and a more secure, respectful position. And a new man.

We were supposed to be happy for Tess in that she had a WINDOW OFFICE with a GREAT VIEW and she wasn't a secretary but she HAD a secretary. PLUS she won the guy.
