Is this better than The Gene Wilder movie?

The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother?

I loved Young Frankenstein but hated that one.

I'm a big fan of the Holmes stories and would like to find a good movie that lampoons them.

Everything is better than the Gene Wilder movie.

Yes, this is good fun, and knowledgeable too. So is The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Stephens and Colin Blakeley - full of Holmesian inside jokes. Directed by (confusingly) Billy Wilder, 1970.

Thank you, heatherowen. I'll check them both out.

There is no comparing the two. This one is superior to the other one in many ways. Many many ways.

"I want to kill everyone. Satan is good. Satan is our pal."

Yeah, it's not even close. This is a hilarious, underrated movie. Caine is brilliant, Kingsley is perfect. This is a must see for fans of holmes or just comedy in general. Great movie.

The Wilder flick was just all the people from young frankenstein trying to hang out again. I love all the actors, but it's horrible.

This is 100 times better than 'Smarter Brother'. Smarter Brother had the great line about, "Do you call this tea?" "No, I calls it 'ot water, I was rinsing out the cup." That's the only thing I remember of that movie.

This movie is absolutely classic.

IMHO, WAC is more entertaining than those Robt Downey Sherlock Holmes movies, not to mention the old Basil Rathbone flicks.

It's much, much better than the Gene Wilder movie. It's not even close.

reply

As others have stated: This is the far superior film.
